Protocol guided management has been shown to improve the efficiency and quality of care provided in ICU settings. In addition to JCAHO mandated guidelines, the Mount Sinai NSICU has developed clinical and administrative guidelines for a variety of commonly treated disease conditions.
In general, protocols are meant as suggestions for management and may be superseded by clinical judgment.
